JKLF vice president detained ahead of ‘Maqbool Day’

SRINAGAR: Police on Sunday evening arrested the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) vice chairman Mushtaq Ajmal and zonal vice president Muhammad Yasin Butt ahead of ‘Maqbool Day’ on Monday, a party statement issued here said.
JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik and party leaders Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi, Noor Muhammad Kalwal, Muhammad Salim Nanaji, Ghulam Muhammad Dar, district president Ganderbal Bashir Ahmad Boya, district president Budgam Gulzar Ahmad Pahalwan, Fayaz Ahmad and others are already in police custody.
Muhammad Maqbool Bhat, a JKLF ideologue and founding member, was hanged by the Government of India (GoI) on February 11, 1984 in Delhi’s Tihar jail.
Another Kashmiri, Muhammad Afzal Guru, was also hanged in Tihar jail on February 9, 2013.
Both Maqbool Bhat and Afzal Guru are buried inside the same prison.
Kashmiris have been observing their anniversaries and demand return of the mortal remains of both Maqbool Bhat and Afzal Guru.
The joint resistance leadership (JRL), spearheading the resistance movement in J&K, called for complete shutdown on the anniversaries of both Bhat and Guru.
