SRINAGAR: CRPF sub inspector along with six forces personnel and four civilians were injured after suspected militants lobbed a grenade on police party near Palladium Cinema in Lal chowk area of Srinagar on Sunday evening.
In the blast, four policemen, three CRPF personnel and four civilians including a woman suffered splinter injuries.
The injured personnel were identified as constable Ashiq Ahmad, constable Abid, constable Nassar Ahmed, Mohammad Shafi, sub inspector R Muniswami of CRPF 132 bn, constable Vishal of 132 bn CRPF and constable Devandra of 132 bn CRPF.
Police in a statement said four cops, three CRPF personnel and four civilians were injured in the attack.
The injured civilians have been identified as Humaira of Hairwan, Abdul Qayoom of Mandibal Nowshehra, Taliba Gulshan of Dalgate and Shadab Shah of Nishat, police said.
The injured have been shifted to the hospitals for treatment. They are stable, police said, adding that a case has been registered in this regard.
Meanwhile, Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) has claimed the responsibility of the grenade attack, GNS reported.
The news agency quoted the JeM spokesperson as saying that the attack was carried out by Jaish-e-Mohammad’s “Afzal Guru squad”.
