Baramulla: A grid station was damaged in Peerniyan area of tehsil Boniyar in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday, resulting in electricity breakdown to half a dozen villages.
Locals said heavy snowfall on Thursday disrupted electricity in the area as most of the heavy transmission lines were damaged.
The Power Development Department (PDD) employees tried to restore electricity in the area but they were unaware of the damage to the main 3.5 MVA transformer, they said.
Six villages – Gantamulla Bala, Gantamulla Payeen, Zahampora, Manzgam, Kitchama and Gantmulla Colony – are now reeling under darkness.
Locals said the PDD sent a team of engineers who failed to repair the transformer and suggested that it be taken to the workshop.
The Executive Engineer PDD Baramulla Nazir Ahmad told Kashmir Reader that the department will restore electricity in the area through other grid stations.
“As the transformer of the station has been damaged, we will restore elective in the affected areas through Nowshera and Peerniyan station,” he said.
