Srinagar: Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik while paying tributes to Muhammad Afzal Guru, on Saturday said that “his sacrifice is the ineradicable chapter of Kashmir history”.
“Gallows, life imprisonments, curfews, arrests, intimidations and threats will never succeed in breaking the will of Kashmiris and their urge for freedom,” Malik said according to the statement issued by the party.
“Afzal was hanged to satisfy the collective consciousness of Indians. Likewise great Kashmiri ideologue martyr Muhammad Maqbool Butt also was hanged without being given a fair trial,” he stated.
He added, “Hangings, arrests, life imprisonments, harassments, police and army intimidations and other oppressive measures cannot suppress the voices of Kashmiris for long and the day is not far when dawn of freedom will rise on the horizons of Jammu Kashmir. Kashmiris will continue their struggle till the desired goal is not achieved and India returns the mortal remains of Muhammad Maqbool Bhat and Muhammad Afzal Guru.”
The statement further said: “JKLF condemns crackdown against the resistances camp to stop protest on Maqbool and Afzal anniversaries.”
The spokesperson of the party said that three of its leaders were detained by the police from their houses in Srinagar.
He said that Noor Muhammad Kalwal, Showkat Bakshi and Mohammad Saleem Nanaji were detained by the police from their homes in Elahibagh, Bemina and Natipora respectively.
He said the leaders were detained to prevent them from leading demonstrations against the execution of Afzal Guru on his sixth death anniversary.
