Budgam: The debris of a collapsed protection wall, close to deputy commissioner’s office in Budgam, continued to block the Karipora-Budgam link road, even as the day passed, leaving the commuters in the district headquarter in trouble.
The protection wall collapsed during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, and several families living close by had a narrow escape.
Locals said they were fast asleep when they heard a loud thud – a blast like sound.
When they came out they found a massive portion of protection wall collapsed.
“The 100 feet wall, which was made of stone and cement and had a concrete slab, could not withstand the weight of the snow, causing the wall to collapse,” a local Shabir Ahmad Bhat said.
He said that their residential houses and other structures, which are located along the wall are in threat as they can collapse anytime.
As the debris of the wall kept the vital road close, creating immense hardships to local residents, they questioned the approach of the administration. “The area is considered to be the lawn of the DC office, despite that the debris from this vital road is yet to be cleared.” Bhat said. “Although a team of police and R&B officials reached to spot to assess the loss, however, they failed to provide any kind of respite to people”.
“Our houses are in danger and in case the concerned officials show laziness, our houses may collapse,” Bhat added. “If that happens the responsibility lies on their head”.
“We demand deputy commissioner Budgam, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar visit the spot personally to take the preventive measures and gear up the work for its reconstruction,” he said.
DC Budgam could not be contacted despite repeated efforts.
