PULWAMA: Amid heavy snowfall on Thursday, thousands of people from different villages of south Kashmir participated in the funeral prayers of slain Lashkar commander Irfan Ahmad Sheikh at his native village Chakoora in Pulwama district.
After thousands of mourners including women and children walked with his funeral procession in Chakoora village, six rounds of funeral prayers were held for Irfan to accommodate all the people, local sources told Kashmir Reader.
The body of the slain militant was handed over to his family members late on Wednesday night. He was laid to rest at his native village amid pro-freedom slogans.
Irfan Ahmad Sheikh was killed in a brief gunfight with government forces at his native village on Wednesday evening. Sources said that he had joined Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) in November 2017.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in Pulwama town and adjoining villages to mourn the killing of Sheikh. All shops and other business establishment were closed and there was no traffic on roads in the town and elsewhere in the district.
