Awantipora village without water supply for years Resident threaten to take protest to highway

AWANTIPORA: The residents of Rajpora village in Awantipora Tuesday staged a protest against Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department for their failure to supply regular drinking water in their village.
A large number of residents including women from Rajpora assembled at Check Rajpora-Tral road and raised slogans against PHE.
They said that in the bone-chilling winter, amid snowfall, the womenfolk have to fetch water from streams in the area.
They demanded immediate intervention of the higher authorities for resolving the issue.
The residents said the village comprising of some 100 households lacks water supply for the last many years.
The villagers threatened to come out on the Srinagar-Jammu highway in protest in coming days if PHE failed to provide proper a regular water supply.
They said that no water scheme has been provided to the village and residents have to walk upto two kilometres to fetch water from streams.
Executive Engineer of PHE Division Awantipora Ravi Kant told Kashmir Reader that 400 pipes were damaged by Command Area of Agriculture department.
“We are demanding compensation for damaged pipes so that pipes are installed for regular water supply,” Ravi said.
He added that they had decided to dig a bore well near the village but the idea could not sustain because of dispute between two parties.
