Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mohammad Yousuf Bhat on Thursday expressed anguish over the failure of the government for providing relief to the affected orchardists whose crops were damaged due to the untimely snowfall in the month of the November.
Terming the delay as futile, Bhat in a statement said: Horticulture – being the backbone of the economy of the state – has suffered a severe loss because of the untimely snowfall. Government has failed to provide them any relief either through SDRF or special relief package as promised by the Governor.”
Bhat further said that Advisor to Governor had visited orchards in south Kashmir and teams were constituted to assess the losses, “but till date nothing has happened and the orchardists are left at the mercy of God”.
PDP leader urged the administration to act in view of the quantum of the losses they have suffered. He added that their KCC loans also be waived-off.
