SHOPIAN: Amid heavy snowfall, government forces conducted three cordon and search operations (CASOs) in three different villages of Shopian on Thursday.
The first operation of the day was launched at Kadgam village early in the morning. Door to door searches of several residential houses were conducted there by government forces. Locals said that no trace of militants was found in the village and later the cordon was lifted from the area.
The second search operation was conducted at Awneera village, a far-flung village of the district where similar searches of several houses were conducted but no militant was found. The military operation was later called off by the forces.
The last operation of the day was conducted at Thokerpora in Nagbal belt at about 5:30pm. Villagers informed that a large contingent of government forces besieged the village, sealing all its entry and exit points.
Thokerpora is a village of about 30 households. Searches of several houses were conducted in the village, locals said, adding that the operation was called off when no militant was found.
Locals believe that the heavy snowfall on Thursday led the forces to launch a manhunt thinking that militants may have shifted to village residential areas due to the inclement weather.
Most parts of Shopian district received more than six inches of snowfall in plain areas, while higher reaches witnessed more than a feet of fresh snowfall.
