Sparsh leprosy campaign to begin on Jan 30 in Bandipora

BANDIPORA: Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) Bandipora Reyaz Ahmad Beigh Tuesday said that the government will rope in Panchayat institutions to raise awareness about leprosy in this district for eradicating this disease.

According to an official statement, he stated this while reviewing the action plan for the implementation of Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign (SLAC) 2019 in the district.

The meeting was attended by Chief Medical Officer Bandipora Dr Bilkees Mir, Chief Education Officer Munshi Javed, District Leprosy Officer, District Asha Coordinator and other senior officers of the district.

Beigh directed the officers of ICDS, Education Department, Social Welfare Officer, Rural Development Department to formulate a joint plan to organise awareness camps at village level about leprosy.

The meeting was informed that the SLAC 2019 is part of National Leprosy Eradication Programme and aims to know about the magnitude of Leprosy problem and evolution of Leprosy control besides learning about the goals, objectives and strategies for leprosy elimination. It was informed in the meeting that the campaign will be held from January 30 to February 13.
