Srinagar: Passengers stranded in Jammu due to the closure of the national highway on Friday protested and demanded from the government that they be airlifted.
“Government should airlift stranded passengers as there are women and children who are suffering badly,” protesters said.
The Srinagar Jammu highway has been closed for five days due to snowfall and landslides.
Officials said that almost 800 people are stranded due to the closure of the highway, the only road connectivity Kashmir valley to the rest of the world.
The protesting families assembled at General Bus Stand Jammu and demanded that the authorities take serious action to address the problems faced by them.
Many stranded families claimed that market prices of commodities have skyrocketed and there is no authority to put the rates in order. “Some of the shopkeepers are taking undue advantage of our miseries,” they claimed.
