Handwara shuts on massacre anniversary

Handwara: The Handwara town in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district observed a shutdown on Thursday to mark the anniversary of Jan 25, 1990 massacre, in which 27 civilians were killed by the government forces. Shops and other business centres including tuition centres in and around the town remain closed while as public transport was also affected. Members of trader federation, relatives of slain, and other people visited nearby graveyard to offer special prayers for “all the martyrs”.
President Traders Federation Handwara Ajaz Ahmad Sofi said that every year people visit the Martyrs Graveyard where all 27 people killed on the day were buried.
