Srinagar: The Anti-Corruption Bureau(ACB), Kashmir has arrested Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Qazigund, Imtiyaz Ahmad Hakeem and a clerk in his office, on allegations of taking bribe from a contractor for releasing his due payments.
The Bureuau had laid a trap on complaint of a contractor, during which the office clerk was caught taking bribe allegedly on behalf of the ZEO
A statement issued by ACB here said that a contractor, Ghulam Muhammad Wani, resident of Noorpora had complained that the ZEO had released part of payment due to him for the executed work of construction of boundary wall of Middle School Wanpora Kewa and BRC Qazigund after taking a bribe a Rs 5000 on Jan 17.
For releasing the rest, the contractor alleged that the ZEO was demanding further Rs 5000 as bribe and asked him to kept the amount with the his clerk /accountant, Sulinder Singh.
“The trap team constituted by ACB Kashmir headed by DSP Mohammad Shafiq laid a successful trap in which Sulinder Singh a Clerk ZEO Office Qazigund was caught red handed while demanding and accepting bribe amounting Rs.5000/- from the complainant. The tainted money was recovered from the possession of the accused in presence of independent witness,” the ACB statement said.
An FIR was register by the ACB under section 5(1) (d) r/w 5(2) J&K P.C. Act Samvat 2006 and Sec 4-A of the amended PC Act. Later the relevant records were seized and both the clerk and the ZEO were arrested. Further investigations are going on into the case, they said.
