KANGAN: Despite snowfall, the students of a government-run winter tutorial centre in Hariganiwan in Kangan area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district protested Saturday against the non-availability of the required teaching staff in the centre.
Reports said that the students staged a protest by blocking the Srinagar-Sonamarg road, demanding adequate teaching staff. As a result of the protest, commuters faced a lot of inconvenience
The protesting students demanding the appointment of staff at the centre as they alleged that only three teachers had been posted at the centre. “Because of this, our studies are affected,” they said.
On the one hand, said the students, the government is claiming that it will provide proper and free education during winter, especially in rural areas where children are unable to get education in expensive schools. But on the ground these claims are proved to be hollow, they alleged.
The parents of the agitating students said that it was unfortunate that despite having a good strength of 300 students in the winter tutorial centre, the Education Department was not providing adequate staff to the students.
The parents alleged that their children have suffered due to the shortage of teaching staff.
Later, the SHO Police Station Gund, Syed Airf Bukhari, rushed to the spot and assured the protesters of staff being appointed in days.
On receiving this assurance, the protesting students dispersed, and vehicular movement was restored on the busy highway.
