Srinagar: Tehreek-e-Hurriyat chief Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai and Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) on Thursday welcomed the release of resistance leader Mushtaq-ul-Islam, and in a statement called for “immediate and unconditional” release of all political prisoners.
TeH chief said: “We welcome his release. All the prisoners of conscience and political prisoners who have been detained for years for their political beliefs, and all those who have been detained for years without trials should also be released.”
“For years we have been demanding and campaigning for the unconditional release of prisoners of conscience,” Sehrai stated. “We view their unjustified persecution as politically motivated harassment.”
He further said that hundreds of Kashmiris are languishing in jails across India for their political ideology and beliefs and “even subjected to ill-treatment”.
The statement further said that Sehrai alleged that Ab. Majeed Parray and Shahbaz Ahmed Mir are subjected to mental and physical in police custody. “Severely thrashing of inmates is not only unacceptable but against the basic principles of humanity,” he said.
DFP while welcoming the release of Mushtaq-ul-Islam, said that “Kashmir dispute cannot be resolved by jailing our leaders but it needs concrete political measures to ensure long-lasting peace in the region”.
“New Delhi knows that jailing resistance leaders have yielded them nothing,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “So it is high time for New Delhi to accept and acknowledge the basic and historical facts of Kashmir dispute so that it is resolved according to the wishes of the people.”
The spokesperson hailed the steadfastness and firm political belief of incarcerated resistance leader and DFP chairman Shabir Shah.
