Srinagar: The Joint Resistance Leadership has called for a complete shutdown at Gaw Kadal, Basant Bagh, Chota Bazar, Budshah Chowk and adjacent areas on Monday (January 21) to mark 28th anniversary of GawKadal massacre. The JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik also called for shutdown in Handwara and Kupwara towns on January 25 and 27 to mark the anniversary of massacres in the north Kashmir district.

In a statement, the trio said that congregational prayers will be held on January 21 at Gaw Kadal, Handwara on Jan 25 and January 27 at Kupwara.

”Carnage at Gaw Kadal, Handwara and Kupwara remind us of Indian occupation and oppression. Illegal military occupation followed by such massacres symbolizes callousness under the garb of so-called democracy,” they said and added, “The nation of Kashmir is indebted to martyrs who laid down their lives for freedom and resistance leadership pledges to continue this struggle till the achievement of the sacred goal.”
