Srinagar: The class 12 results declared by the J&K State Board of School Education (JKBOSE) last week have apparent discrepancies in the online results, even as the board says the scorecard available on the internet is “not final”.
Given the statutory marks being a maximum 5 and the minimum pass marks for a subject being 36, a candidate scoring only 28 marks in General English paper has been surprisingly shown as passed in the examination with “Second Division”.
On the other hand, a candidate scoring an aggregate 47 marks in Environmental Science has been shown as failed on her online marksheet.
While a candidate scoring 31 marks in Political Science paper has been shown as passed with “Third Division” on the marksheet available on the internet, another candidate getting 35 marks in Education paper has been shown as failed in the subject.
The board has not indicated in the marksheets whether the 5 statutory marks have been awarded to a particular candidate, which has only added to the confusion.
The online marksheets are being widely shared on social media with netizens taunting the JKBOSE for the errors.
“28 marks and pass. This is JKBOSE!” a youth wrote on social media while sharing the marksheets.
Mohammad Arif Akhoon, Joint Secretary at the JKBOSE, said of the online marksheets, “This is not the final scorecard”.
Akhoon said that the final marksheets of the candidates, which he said may be issued in a day or two, will have the details mentioned on them.
He also said that the marksheets on the internet may have been affected by the statutory 5 marks.
“Sometimes, a candidate having 29 marks in a subject will pass (by including the 5 statutory marks) and the one having 35 in a subject will fail,” he said.
Asked why a student scoring 47 marks in Environmental Science was shown as failed in the exam, Akhoon said that the practical score of the candidate may not have been included.
