Srinagar: Reacting to Army General Bipin Rawat’s remark that Kashmiri youth being radicalised with misinformation, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) chairman Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai on Saturday said the people of Kashmir are neither misinformed nor is this “indigenous political struggle” driven by social media platforms.
In a statement, TeH chairman said: “Army General is deliberately issuing such statements and labelling educated Kashmiri’s as radicalised just to hoodwink the masses.”
“Rawat should know fact that people of Kashmir are demanding their right to self-determination peacefully since 1947 when such media platforms even don’t exist,” he stated.
Before labelling Kashmiris radicalised, Sehrai said, “General Rawat should realise that Kashmiri’s are striving for their birthright.”
TeH chief further said that “Indian military and political leadership has no other option but to come to the grips of the reality that Kashmir issue cannot be dealt with military might or with threats, but by involving all parties to Kashmir dispute in a meaningful and result-oriented dialogue process, which could also help to end political uncertainty in entire South Asia”.
The statement also said that Sehrai expressed concern over the frequent cordon-and-search-operations (CASOs) across the valley. “This is the collective punishment inflicted on the people in the winter months that deserves all forms of condemnation.”
