Srinagar: Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) chairman Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai on Friday demanded the release of all political prisoners, saying their detention is aimed to “restrict and repress” the Kashmiri people.
In a statement, TeH chief while expressing concern over their prolonged detention said: “Most of the prisoners are illegally detained, and putting hundreds into prison is no democracy.”
“Kashmiris have been punished for demanding their legitimate basic rights which have every international legitimacy and recognition,” he stated, adding: “Draconian laws like PSA and AFSPA are invariably invoked to deny freedom of expression.”
“The administration is practising all the methods of coercion to crush the people’s resistance,” Sehrai said. “…but let me reiterate and convey to Indian establishment that our sentiment cannot be crushed down by brute force.”
Sehrai appealed to the international community to come forward and raise their voice for the Kashmir cause.
