Light to moderate snow, rainfall likely today
Srinagar: After fresh snowfall in the plains and higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir during the past 24 hours, the weather office on Friday predicted dry weather from January 13, Sunday.
“Weather will see gradual change in Jammu and Kashmir from Saturday evening. We are also expecting dry weather from January 13 for some days,” Director of the J&K Meteorological (MeT) department, Sonam Lotus, told Kashmir Reader.
Fresh snowfall occurred in many places like Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Qazigund and other hilly areas of Kashmir while plain areas, including Srinagar, received moderate snowfall since Thursday evening.
The snowfall also led to the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu national highway on Friday.
According to the MeT office, light to moderate rain and snowfall will occur at most places in the state till January 12.
The office said Leh in Ladakh region continued to be the coldest in the state on Friday as minimum temperature dropped to minus 9.5 degrees Celsius.
The lowest temperatures on Friday were minus 2.2 in Srinagar, minus 7.1 in Pahalgam, and minus 7.9 in Gulmarg.
In Jammu division, Jammu city recorded a minimum of 7.0 degrees Celsius, Katra 5.9, Batote 1.6, Banihal minus 0.1, and Bhaderwah minus 1.1.
