Electrical employees protest privatisation of power sector

Srinagar: J&K Central Non-Gazetted Electrical Employees Union (JKCNGEEU) on Wednesday held a protest demonstration here against privatization of power sector.
The non gazetted employees from various district of Kashmir assembled in Pratap park and marched towards the press enclave.
Holding placards and banners in their hands which read ” Release our service under SRO 381″, “Stop privatization of Power sector”, and ” Release our pending wages” and chanting slogans against the authorities.
The protesting employees said that they are demanding release of pending wages and regularisation of their services as per the SR0 381 of 1981.
Umer Bhat, provincial president of JKCNGEEU said that they are protesting against the wrong policy of the government to privatize Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department (JKPDD) into companies and this decision should be revoked immediately.
“Re-organisation of Power Development Department in accordance with the actual requirements which not only ensure the smooth maintenance of huge infrastructure of the department, but it will also ensure the development growth of the staff,” he said.
He said that they are demanding the transfer of all power projects from central sector to state sector to overcome the present shortage and risk allowance in favour of the PDD and PDC casual labourers and daily wagers.
The protesters said that minimum wages act should be implemented in the state.
