Handwara: At least eleven shops were gutted in a fire incident in northern Kashmir’s Handwara market on Tuesday night.
According to locals, fire broke out from a shop around 1 am on Tuesday night and spread to adjoining wooden structures before people and fire tenders could reach the spot.
Police and local people of the area reached on the spot and douse the flames, however, at least eleven shops were gutted completely in the fire incident.
President, traders’ federation Handwara, Ajaz Ahmad Sofi said that goods worth lakhs of rupees were damaged in the fire incident. He appealed the government to compensate those shopkeepers who lost their property so that they can run their business again.
Meanwhile, police have registered a case and started investigation.
