Shopian: A massive cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) was launched in the orchards and paddy fields in this south Kashmir district on Sunday.
The operation was conducted jointly by army’s 44 RR, police, and paramilitary CRPF early in the morning at Heff-Shirmal village and adjoining orchards. Government forces suspected the presence of hideouts of militants in the area.
Locals said that intensive searches were carried out for any hideout of militants.
A similar operation was carried out by government forces in the area last month which did not yield anything.
Sunday’s operation also didn’t yield anything and it was called off later in the day.
Last year, more than a hundred CASOs were conducted in Shopian district and as many as 44 militants were killed here – the highest number in the past decade.
