Body of stranded Kupwara woman reaches home, passengers shifted to safer places

Kupwara: Body of the stranded woman who died due to cold on Kupwara-Tangdar road has been lifted and taken to her home on Sunday.
An elderly woman Taja Begum, wife of Abdul Qayoom, died due to cold on Friday evening when she along with her family members crossed the stop point on Kupwara-Tangdar road after snowfall and started journey by foot. Her body was lying there for two days.
The rescue teams on Sunday reached the spot to shift the stranded passengers to the safe area. The team headed by a police inspector lifted the body of the woman and took it to her home while other people were shifted to a nearby area till the road is properly cleared, an official said.
Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Khalid Jahangir told Kashmir Reader that the body of the woman has been taken to her home.
“With the help of police and local volunteers, who chose a short cut route,” DC said, adding, “18 stranded people including some children and women have been shifted to a safe place.”
“There was heavy avalanche warning for Sunday that is why we didn’t venture out, but the men and machinery is ready and they will clear the road till Monday evening or Tuesday so that the stranded people reach their homes,” Jahangir said.
He said all the people are safe, DC said, adding, “We arranged all the necessary items for them.”
