Srinagar: The residents of Chewdra village of Beerwah tehsil in Budgam district are up arms against district administration for failing to construct the drainage system in the village.
“The construction work of drainage system in Chawanpora Mohalla of Chewdara was started in 2011 but has not been completed till date,” the residents said.
They said the work was not completed at that time due to financial implications.
Abdul Majeed Bhat, a local resident said that due to the worst condition of drainage system in the village they are facing lot of problems.
“We approached the concerned block development officer regarding the issue. He assured us that the construction work would be started soon. But 16 months have passed, the work has not been started yet,” Bhat said.
Another resident said that from last few years drainage water enters our homes resulting in damage to their properties.
“The authorities did not care about the sufferings of people,” said Ghulam Mohammad Mir.
The locals said they have already approached district administration Budgam regarding the issue. “But nobody is ready to listen to us,” they said.
When contacted, Block Development Officer Rathsun, Majid Manzoor said the issue will be discussed in the Gram Sabha.
