Bandipora: A 56-year-old man died on Saturday after slipping while clearing snow from the second storey of his under construction house in this north Kashmir district.
Witnesses said that Mumtaz Ahmad Tamboco, son of Ghulam Rasool Tambaco, who lived at ward no. 3 in Plan area and worked as a TSO in CAPD department, fell from the second storey of his house while clearing snow.
According to the family, Mumtaz was rushed to Bandipora hospital in a critical condition. He was referred to SKIMS Soura where the doctors declared him brought dead.
However, some of the deceased’s family members alleged that the hospital was ill-equipped and lacked even an ambulance for the patient to be shifted to Srinagar.
“And when they somehow managed one (ambulance), it broke down only after few kilometres,” the family told Kashmir Reader. “We later approached Deputy Commissioner’s office for help. It consumed a lot of time.”
Mumtaz is survived by wife and three children. One of his sons is a locally acclaimed cricketer who has played at national levels.
The tragic death was widely condoled across the district. Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Shahid Choudhary in a tweet termed it an “irreparable loss to the family”.
The DC also handed over the ex-gratia relief of Rs 4 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased and directed the officials to ensure ration and other arrangements for the family.
The ex-legislators of PDP and Congress also expressed shock over Mumtaz’s tragic death.
