Kashmiri prisoners subjected to ‘mental, physical torture’: ML alleges

Srinagar: Muslim League (ML) on Saturday condemned the “ill-treatment” of Kashmiri prisoners in Haryana, Jodhpur, Gujarat, Tihar, Baramulla and other jails, alleging they are subjected to “mental and physical torture”.
In a statement, a spokesperson said that the acting chairman of ML, Abdul Ahad Parra alleged that prisoners are being “harassed” in state and outside jails.
“Jail authorities are torturing the inmates mentally and physically, and there are reports that animal like treatment is given to the Kashmiri prisoners,” Parra claimed.
“It is political vendetta that detainees are ill-treated,” he said.
Parra further said that incarcerated leaders Masrat Aalam, M Qasim Faqtoo, Mushtaq ul Islam, Dr. Shafi Shariati, Shabir Ah. Shah, GH. Qadir Bhat, M. Yousuf Mir, Asiya Andrabi, Khan Mohd. Sopori, Nahida Nasreen, Fahmeeda sofi, Assadullah parray, Nayeem A Khan, Feroz A Khan, Showkat Hakeem, Mehrajuddin Nanda, Molvi Sajad, Waheed A Gojri, M amin Dar, Raja Kalwal, Ayaz Akbar, M. Yousuf Falahi, Salman Yousuf, Aashaq Hussain Mir, Basharat A., Mufti Nadeem, Farooq A Tawhidi, Sarjan Barkati, Shakeel A. Yatoo, Umer Aadil Dar, Bashir Qureshi, Khursheed A. Lone, Manzoor A. Najar, Hafiz Nisar Ahmad and all other detained in different jails have given huge sacrifices for the sacred cause.
“They are icons and assets for ongoing freedom movement,” he said.
While hailing sacrifices rendered by political prisoners, Parra said that “we as a nation are pursuing a rightful mission of freedom and our resistance movement is based on principles and supported by strong historical evidence”.
He appealed to the United Nations to come to the rescue of these detainees and ensure better treatment, safety and early release of all the prisoners.
