Anantnag: A youth was shot and killed by unidentified gunmen, here in Khasipora village of Tral in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Simranjeet Singh, 24, alias Suman, son of Nanak Singh, a resident of Khasipora village in Tral area, was per per police, shot at in his native village at around noon.
“The gunmen shot at him multiple times. He had bullet wounds in his abdomen and his chest,” a senior police official from Awantipora police district told Kashmir Reader.
He said that Singh was immediately evacuated to Sub-district hospital Tral where the doctors referred him to SMHS hospital in Srinagar in a critical condition.
“He had lost too much of blood and we could only hope he will survive. But he did not,” a Health official from Tral said.
Singh succumbed at SMHS hospital in Srinagar later in the day. His body has been handed over to his family for last rites.
Following the shootout government forces reached the Khasipora village and efforts were made to try and nab the attackers, who had fled by then.
“We have filed an FIR and investigation has been taken up in the case. For now it has come to fore that his brother is a Sarpanch in the area. We are taking that into consideration as well, while investigating the case,” the police officials said.
