Srinagar: Muslim League on Friday said UNO has failed to implement Jan 5, 1949 resolutions and “it has put a question mark on its credibility”.
According to a statement, a spokesman said: “India cannot deny the legitimacy and authenticity of the UN resolution which stand witness that political destiny of Jammu and Kashmir is yet to be decided”.
He said UN resolutions form base “for our struggle and guarantee the peaceful and amicable solution of issue as per the aspirations of people of Jammu and Kashmir”.
Commenting on the resolution passed on 5th January, 1949, ML leader – M Rafiq Ganaie said even after seven decades, these resolutions are viable and provide a peaceful and durable solution for the vexed and longstanding issue of Kashmir.
He said UN has so far passed more than 18 resolutions, which guarantee right to self-determination to people of Kashmir. “But it’s most unfortunate that UN is acting like a mute spectator and failed to implement it’s own resolutions to stop innocents killings and other worst kind of human rights violations in Kashmir.”
He expressed dismay over the role of UNO saying “it is painful that this institution has failed to implement its resolutions”. “Though the UN has done a commendable job in other fields but unfortunately it couldn’t contain the arrogant forces like India which is trampling all ethics in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
“The January 5, 1949 resolution is a clear binding on India to fulfill its commitment of resolving Kashmir issue according to the wishes and aspirations of the people through a peaceful referendum,” he said.
He appealed to UN Secretary General to play his part in resolving the long pending Kashmir dispute .
