Baramulla: The power crisis made the lives of people miserable as several areas in this north Kashmir district are without electricity from the last one month.
The residents of Baramulla, Sopore, Pattan, Rafiabad, Sheeri and Uri areas of the district are up in arms against the Power Development Department (PDD) which ‘failed’ to provide them electricity as per schedule.
General Secretary, traders federation Baramulla, Tariq Ahmad Magloo said that they held a candle light protest last week to protest the non-availability of electricity in the area.
“We also presented a memorandum to DC Baramulla. However, he too failed to motivate the department to solve our problems,” he said.
The people living in metered areas said that PDD had issued winter schedule but we are being provided the electricity as per their wish.
Similarly, the people in non-metered areas also said that they are facing acute shortage of electricity from the past two months due to which they are facing problems.
A senior official in the PDD said that people are using dozens of heaters and boilers at their homes resulting in frequent power cuts. “The people should not use cooking heaters and water boilers at one time,” he said.
