Srinagar: Three militant have been killed in a fierce gunfight in Gulshanpora village of Tral in south Kashmir on Thursday.
A police spokesperson said that three militants affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen and Jaish-e-Mohammad have been killed in the gunfight and their bodies have also been retrieved.
The killed militants were identified as Zubair Ahmad Bhat @Abu Huraira son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat resident of Chursoo Awantipora afflicted with Jaish-e-Mohammad, and two Hizbul Mujahideen militants named as Shakoor Ahmad Parray @Jaffar son of Ghulam Nabi Parray resident of Laribal Tral and Tawseef Ahmad Thoker @Abu Talha son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-deen Thoker resident of Chursoo Bunpora Awantipora.
“All the three killed militants were wanted by law for their complicity in a series of terror crimes including attacks on security establishments and civilian atrocities. It was a combined group of JeM and HM and as per police records,” police spokesperson said in a handout.
The gunfight ensued after army’s 42 RR, SOG of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation in the area. The operation, according to police sources, was launched after specific inputs about presence of militants in the area.
While the forces were engaged with militants, protests erupted around the gunfight and elsewhere in Tral. Initial report said that more than a dozen youths have suffered injuries during the clashes.
