SRINAGAR: Municipal Councillors from three municipality committees of Kupwara district including Handwara, Kupwara and Langate on Tuesday held a protest demonstration in Srinagar against divisional administration Kashmir for not being able to provide accommodation and transportation during their training programme in Srinagar.
Scores of the councillors from three municipality committees of Kupwara district assembled here and chanted slogans against the authorities.
The councillors accused the divisional administration for failing to provide them proper accommodation and transportation during the three days capacity building training programme that is being held at Institute of Management, Public Administration and Rural Department (IMPA).
“The government mentioned in the letter that proper accommodation and transportation would be provided to the elected councillors during the three days training session,” Iram Amin Banday, a councillor from Handwara said.
Musrar Bandy, president of municipal committee and elected councillor from Handwara town said: “The councillors attended the first day of the training session on December 31 and no facilities have been given to them as per the government directions.”
“We are staying in local hotels at our own expenses,” he said.
“If government has mentioned in letter that proper facilities will be given to the elected councillors during three days training session. Why the administration has not provided the facilities to us,” he questioned.
The councillors threatened to resign if government fails to provide proper facilities to them.
