Srinagar: Denouncing the “desecration” of Jamia Masjid Srinagar, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat chairman Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai on Tuesday said pulpit of Jamia is meant for spreading the sacred message of Qur’an and Sunnah and create unity among the Muslim community, “but it is unfortunate that some miscreants want to create a wedge in the society”.
In a statement, Sehrai said: “Such elements are not serving any cause of the people of Kashmir or that of Islam, but causing hurdles in it. Such nefarious activities are a cause of great concern for the entire Muslim community.”
We as Muslims “cannot allow anyone to dishonour places of worship,” Sehrai added.
“Waving flags and raising slogans from the pulpit is condemnable,” the resistance leader said. “The aim of these miscreants is to weaken the ongoing people’s movement of the right to self-determination,” he alleged and added “these elements are being used to divert this just movement by changing its basic nature and character under the pretence of perusing some global agenda”.
He said this Mosque has remained a pivotal “centre for propagation and promotion of Islamic teachings and values for centuries together and has always played a primary role during the critical periods of Kashmir history and guided the people rightly and in right direction.”
“We will not tolerate desecration of our sacred places,” the statement said.
