Srinagar: A father tried to bury alive his newborn baby having deformity at Malkah graveyard in Srinagar’s downtown.

Police arrested the man who claimed to be poor and unable to afford the treatment of his son.

Reports said that the father of infant Manzoor Ahmad Banyari of Check Shopian approached a gravedigger in the city’s largest graveyard asking him to dig a grave for his son. He declared that his son died previous day.

The baby, according to official sources, was born a few days ago at the Valley’s maternity LD Hospital here and was suffering from a tumor.

As soon the gravedigger placed the infant in the grave, he suddenly started screaming which caught the attention of locals, they said.

A police officer while confirming the incident told GNS that a case under FIR number 72 under section 317 RPC has been registered and further investigations have been taken up.

However, the man has been released on bail by a Srinagar court, the officer said.

The officer added that the baby boy has been shifted to LD Hospital and is under treatment there in the caretaker ward.
