Pampore: A local court in Pampore on Saturday convicted a man in a cheque bounce case and sentenced him to six months imprisonment.
Judicial Magistrate Pampore, Ms Fozia Paul also directed the accused Javeed Ahmad Shah to pay double the amount, amounting to Rs 20.40 lacs, as compensation to the complainant.
The court said the accused has tried to defeat the object of the law of Negotiable Instruments and has issued cheques to the complainant which turned out to be a piece of paper for the complainant.
The complaint had been filed before the court in 2009 under Negotiable Instruments Act.
The court said it was left with no option but to convict the accused.
Accordingly, the accused was convicted for commission of offence under section 138, read with section 142, of Negotiable Instrument Act.
