PAMPORE: Negligence on the part of the Power Development Department (PDD) left a young lineman seriously injured while carrying out repairs at Wuyan village of Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday afternoon. He was shifted to SDH Pampore from where he was shifted to SKIMS Soura hospital in Srinagar in critical condition.
Locals in Pampore are blaming the PDD for the negligence that caused the incident. Eyewitnesses told Kashmir Reader that the lineman, Abdul Satar Teli, resident of Namblabal, Pampore, sustained critical injuries to his head and body as well as some burn injuries while he was repairing an 11 KV high-voltage electric wire at Wuyan village.
The lineman was engaged in repair work atop an electric pole when current was switched at the receiving station in Wuyan.
Locals alleged that the incident happened due to the negligence of the concerned PDD officials.
“How could the staff on duty switch on the electricity supply at a time when the lineman was repairing the 11KV electric wire,” the locals questioned while demanding an inquiry into the incident.
The locals appealed to the Chief Engineer of the department to provide all necessary expenses for the treatment of the injured lineman and to also sanction immediate financial help to his family.
Assistant Executive Engineer PDD, sub-division Pampore, Javaid Hussain, who was present at SKIMS, told Kashmir Reader that the department has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
