PULWAMA: The residents of Hawl village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday held a protest demonstration against the non-availability of drinking water in the village since last month.
The protesting residents shouted slogans against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department.
Eye-witnesses told Kashmir Reader that scores of vehicles were seen stranded after the residents of Hawl held a sit-in on the road for about an hour.
“The pipeline is damaged at many places but the department has not repaired the same with the result that there has been no water supply to the area for the last one month,” the protesters said.
Despite many requests to PHE officials, the problem of water scarcity was not solved due to which people, including women and children held protests against the department and blocked road, they said.
The residents alleged that for the past more than a month they are not receiving regular supply of drinking water which had made life difficult for them.
After an hour long protest, officials of PHE department reached to the spot and assured the protesters that water supply would be restored in shortest possible time.
After the assurances by officials, the protesters dispersed peacefully.
