Baramulla: Even though 42.84% voters cast their vote in Narvaw block of district Baramulla on Saturday, there were four panchayat halqas where no one contested and no election was held.
Official sources said that Kawhar, Malpora, Audora and Hewan A were the four panchayat halqas in Narvaw block where no one submitted nomination form either for Panch or Sarpanch.
They said that all these four halqas had Sarpanch seats reserved for women, but no one submitted their form. Some people submitted forms in Hewan but later withdrew.
All government schools in these areas, where polling booths are normally set up, there was no polling staff or security guard to be seen on Saturday.
Some local people said that these panchayat halqas had Sarpanch seats reserved for women but no one was ready to submit the form.
There are 17 panchayat halqas in Narvaw block. In these, 1 was declared winner uncontested, 4 were vacant, and 12 were in the fray.
