SRINAGAR: The district administration Ganderbal has attached Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Ganderbal for detaching two teachers, which allegedly amounted to “gross misuse of power”.
“Pending enquiry”, an order issued by the Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal on Tuesday directed attachment of the ZEO Ganderbal, Hilal Ahmad Gilkar, with the office of Additional Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal “for gross misuse of powers”.
The order said that CEO Ganderbal shall look after the charge of ZEO Ganderbal till the ZEO Ganderbal’s attachment. An official in the School Education Department posted in Ganderbal district said that the attached ZEO “has not misused his powers” but “has gone beyond the brief”. “While detaching the teachers, he cited reasons for the same, but it has not gone down well with the district administration,” the official added.
While the ZEO Ganderbal had detached the teachers “in the interest of the school”, the official however added that the attached officer’s decision was “wrong in terms of protocol”.
“Otherwise the intentions were good,” he said.
He said that the officer had been attached with the ADC Ganderbal’s office for two days.
Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal Dr Piyush Singla told Kashmir Reader that the attached ZEO, “using the powers of divisional commissioner” had detached two teachers against whom “an enquiry was going on”. The enquiry, Singla said, was with the ADC Ganderbal.
“Otherwise, we want that the teachers join their duties. We are aware of the difficulties of the students (at the schools from where the teachers have been taken),” he added.
When contacted, ADC Ganderbal Naseer Ahmad declined comment on the matter.
