SRINAGAR: Muslim League on Friday alleged that putting ML chief Masrat Aalam in jails on “concocted charges” and slapping public safety acts (PSA) repeatedly on him to prolong his incarceration was nothing but a “travesty of justice and democracy”.
“A conspiracy is being hatched to keep him behind the bars. The authorities don’t want to free him. There is no justification to keep him behind the bars. New ways and means are being devised to harass and intimidate Masarrat Aalam, but he will never succumb,” a Muslim League (ML) spokesperson in a statement issued here said.
He alleged Masarrat Aalam has been booked in “fabricated cases”.
“The administration has made its mind to place Masrat Aalam behind bars and it is using PSA as a tool otherwise courts have repeatedly quashed his detention and directed his release but the administration is adamant on placing him in far off jails, ML spokesperson Sajad Ayoubi alleged.
Stressing for his early release, ML appealed the United Nations Human Rights Council, Red Cross, Amnesty International and other human rights bodies to come forward and to take cognizance of “illegal” detention of Masrat Aalam under the draconian law PSA “which has crossed the world record”. Ayoubi said.
Masrat Aalam was brought to Srinagar from Hiranagar Jail to appear before the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Srinagar for an FIR lodged against him by Nowhatta Police Station. The next hearing of the case is scheduled to be held on December 20, he added.
