2-day Sports Mela for Peace and Development in Pampore concludes

PAMPORE: The two-day Sports Mela for Peace and Development concluded here on Tuesday with more than two dozen schools from NES block Pampore taking part in various sports.
The venue for the event, Iqbal Ground Pampore, was abuzz with sports activities. According to organisers, about 1440 players from around 120 teams took part in the festival that was organised by Zonal Physical Education Officer Pampore.
Additional Development Commissioner Awantipora, Altaf Ahmad Khan was the chief guest on the occasion. Tehsildar Pampore Younis Ahmad Bangroo, Sports Officers, BDO, Social Welfare Project Officer and other officials were present.
The event saw students battling it out for top honours in various sports like kabbadi, kho kho, volleyball, football, tennis ball cricket and Tug of War.
Ghulam Hassan, Sports Officer, told Kashmir Reader that besides monetary benefits, the students will be inculcated with competitiveness edge in their early stages of life.
“We have provided the students with some monetary benefits (Rs 200 each). The main objective of the event is to keep these young students away from drugs and other evil things,” Ghulam Hassan said.
