Police claim Tral and Khrew areas have now been cleared of Jaish cadre
AWANTIPORA: Police on Monday claimed to have busted two Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant modules and arrested 10 operatives of the outfit from two separate places in Khrew Pampore and Tral areas of south Kashmir’s Awantipora police district.
A senior police officer told Kashmir Reader that four associates/ operatives of JeM were arrested in Tral area and six in Khrew Pampore. He said that a huge quantity of detonators, gelatin sticks, and materials used in making improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were recovered from the arrested persons.
He said that with the busting of these two modules and arrest of 10 operatives, Tral and Khrew Pampore areas have been cleared of Jaish-e-Mohammad cadre.
According to police, in view of the surge in militant attacks in Tral in which civilians and security forces were targeted, a special team was constituted to investigate these cases. On the basis of the material evidence this team collected, four persons were taken into custody in Tral. They are: Younis Nabi Naik, son of Ghulam Nabi Naik, resident of Pinglish; Fayaz Ahmad Wani, son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Wani, resident of Reshipora; Riyaz Ahmad Ganaie, son of Mohammad Ramzan Ganaie, resident of Nigeenpora; and Bilal Ahmad Rather, son of Ghulam Rasool, resident of Hafoo Nigeenpora.
“Investigation into the cases revealed their complicity in the attacks carried out in Tral area,” the police officer said.
Another militant module was busted in Khrew area of Pampore where six associates of JeM were arrested. They have been identified as Javaid Ahmad Parray, son of Mohammad Shaban, resident of Bethan Khrew; Yasir Bashir Wani, son of Bashir Ahmad Wani, resident of Babapora Khrew; Tahir Yousuf Lone, son of Mohammad Yousuf Lone, resident of Khrew; Rafiq Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Ahmad, resident of Sharshali Khrew; Javaid Ahmad Khanday, son of Ghulam Ahmad Khanday, resident of Khrew; and Imran Nazir, son of Nazir Ahmad Najar, resident of Mandakpaul Naimsaab Khrew.
They were arrested on the basis of incriminating materials recovered, the police officer said.
All the incriminating materials have been taken into case records to probe their complicity in other terror crimes, police said.
Last week, a Pakistani Jaish-e-Mohammad militant, Waseem, was killed and another local militant Suhail Ahmad Lone, son of Nisar Ahmad, resident of Khrew Pampore, arrested alive during an encounter at Bathen forests in Khrew area of Pampore.
Two local Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants, including a commander in district Pulwama, were killed by government forces in another encounter at Shar Shali village in Khrew area of Pampore last week.
The slain Hizbul militants were identified as Adnan Ahmad Lone alias Uqaab, son of Ghulam Mohammad Lone, resident of Braw Bandina, Awantipora, and Adil Bilal Bhat alias Umair Al Hizbi, son of Bilal Ahmad Bhat, resident of Malangpora, Pulwama.
According to police, both the slain militants were close associates of top Hizbul Mujahideen commander Riyaz Ahmad Naikoo.
