Sopore: Days after clashes broke out in north Kashmir’s Sopore town after a local militant, Mehraj-ud-Din, was killed along with his Pakistani commander Naveed Jat in Budgam district, Sopore police on Sunday night arrested several youths suspected to be involved in the clashes.
Locals said that teams of police, army and paramilitary CRPF raided different locations in Sopore town, mostly in Nowpora and New Colony, and arrested about a half dozen youths from their homes.
Locals said the teams raided homes in Nowpora and New Colony at about 11pm. They said the families and other people resisted the arrests but the government forces’ personnel used batons to counter them. The arrested youths were bundled in police vehicles and taken to police lines Sopore.
Locals said that the police told them that the arrested youths were involved in clashes with government forces on the day when slain militant Mehraj-ud-Din’s body was handed over to his family.
