Ganderbal: The employees and workers of Power Development Department (PDD) and Power Development Corporation (PDC) held a protest demonstration in Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Monday against the government’s move to ‘privatise’ distribution of electricity in the state.
A number of employees and workers under the banner of Central Non Gazzetted Electric Employees union Kangan assembled at PDC colony Kangan, marched towards Kangan market, and raised slogans against the government’s decision to ‘privatise’ distribution of electricity in the state.
“The state government is responsible for the present mess and scenario in the power sector and these things have been borne by the controlling agencies as well as the ruling authorities,” the protesting employees said.
They said that employees and workers have built infrastructure of the department and electrified the state to nearly 100 per cent. “Despite giving incentives to employees, the government has decided to destroy our career by adopting such policies,” they said.
They said that PDD employees and workers have sacrificed their lives for the betterment of the department and in response to that the government is going to ‘ruin’ their families by launching companies in the state.
The protesting employees warned to intensify agitation if the government goes ahead with its decision on privatization of electricity.
“In the name of unbundling, a corporation is being created by the government. This is purely an anti-people move,” they said.
Latter the protesting employees disperse peacefully.
