Demands revocation of FIR
SRINAGAR: Jammu & Kashmir RTI Movement has demanded that FIR filed against Dr Abdul Bari, a college teacher from Kulgam be revoked. Chairman RTI Movement, Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat has appealed the state governor that Dr Bari “has been on the forefront against corruption” and if people like him were targeted by government, “people will have no faith in the rule of law”.
“Police has booked Dr Bari Naik,an Assistant Professor in Govt Degree College (GDC) Kulgam, accusing him of instigating violence in the college while as the reality is that Dr Bari has been using RTI Act to expose corrupt practices in the district. Recently, he filed an RTI in DC office regarding selection process adopted for appointment as Rehber e Khel (ReK) . This has infuriated some senior officers of the district administration. We appeal governor to intervene, get FIR revoked and probe into the whole issue of ReK appointments,” read an official statement.
The chairman further said that it is an irony that in spite of Principal GDC Kulgam giving clean chit to Dr Bari, authorities have booked him like a “3rd grade criminal”.
Terming Bari “an efficient and upright teacher” and “an asset to society”, he said such acts of authorities would further create a wedge between youth particularly the educated youth and authorities, the statement added.
