Ahead of ‘Human Rights Week’ protests Govt detains Mirwaiz at home

Government Monday placed Hurriyat Conference (M) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest to prevent him from participating in candle light vigil against “human rights violations”.

A spokesperson of the amalgam said that a posse of police reached Mirwaiz’s Nigeen residence and detained him inside.

The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) of which Mirwaiz is a part beside Syed Ali Geelani and Yasin Malik have urged people to observe human rights week beginning from today till December 9.

In a tweet Mirwaiz said: “As Baby Hiba is on the verge of losing her eyesight, the #HumanRightsWeek in valley commences.The amount of Ruman Rights abuse that we the people of #Kashmir suffer at the hands of forces bullets and pellets is unprecedented! Urge one and all to register their strong protest against it individually and collectively in whatever way they can! #KashmirBleeds #KashmirKillings #StopPelletGuns (SIC).”
