Ganderbal: The residents of Rezan Gananigar in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal District on Saturday staged a protest against Power Development Department (PDD) for unscheduled power cuts.
A large number of residents assembled and blocked Srinagar-Leh on at Rezan due to which hundreds of vehicles were seen stranded on the busy highway leaving the commuters and the passengers in the vehicles to suffer.
The protesters chanted slogans against the PDD authorities for not providing proper power supply to the area.
“Our areas like Kullan, Rayil, Rezan, Gaganigar have been badly affected by the unscheduled power supply,” said a group of protesters.
They said that PDD has ‘failed’ to provide adequate power supply in these areas. “The authorities are taking test of our patience,” they said.
The protesters said that they paying the tariff according to the curtailment schedule but the power supply is not being provided according to the same.
They alleged that the power was playing hide and seek and often they do not see electricity for days.
“Despite Kashmir standing is a major source of power generation, but we are the most affected as the power generated here is supplied to other states of India and we are left to suffer,” Irfan Bashir a resident of Kullan area said.
He said PDD had failed to ensure proper power supply as per their curtailment schedule, and long and frequent power cuts have become a routine.
The protesters said electricity should be restored at the earliest to their areas.
Later, police and civil administration reached the spot, talked to the protesters and assured them that they will take up the issue with concerned officials.
