No election held in two Pulwama blocks, BJP state spokesperson ‘elected’ Sarpanch

PULWAMA: No polling was held in the sixth phase of Panchayat polls held in Dadsara and Newa blocks of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday. All 14 candidates who filed nominations in these two blocks, including BJP state spokesperson Altaf Thakur, were declared elected unopposed, officials said.
Dadsara block has 14 Sarpanch seats and 109 Panch seats. Officials said that four candidates for Sarpanch and 6 for Panch had filed nomination papers here. All of them were elected without a contest and certificates had already been issued to them, officials said.
The winners include BJP state spokesperson Altaf Thakur who has been “elected” Sarpanch in Dadsara block.
The four Sarpanch candidates who had filed nomination in Dadsara are Altaf Thakur, Mohammad Akbar Ganaie, Manpreet Kaur, and Sakeena Bano.
The six Panch candidates in Dadsara, all of whom are now elected, are Sakeena Banoo, Sushma Singh, Dheeraj Singh, Kanhaiya Lal Koul, Ashok Kumar, and Ghulam Mohammad Bhat.
In Newa block, of the 15 Sarpanch seats and 121 Panch seats, two candidates filed nomination for Sarpanch in two different seats and two filed nomination for Panch in different seats. All four of them won without an election held, officials told Kashmir Reader.
