Man suffers bullet injury in Pulwama crossfire

PULWAMA: A man suffered bullet injures in his leg during an exchange of gunfire between army soldiers and militants during a cordon and search operation in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday evening, police said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pulwama Chandan Kohli told Kashmir Reader that the man was injured in a brief exchange of firing between militants and army at Niloora village of Pulwama district.
“One person identified as Bashir Ahmad Mir sustained bullet injury in his leg during a cordon and search operation when a brief exchange of firing took place between militants and army at Niloora,” the SSP said.
“The civilian has been shifted to nearby hospital where his condition is said to be stable. We are investigating the incident,” Kohli said.
The cordon and search operation is in progress in Niloora, he added.
Local sources told Kashmir Reader that the injured man Bashir Ahmad Mir tried to run from a residential house during the firing. He was hit by a bullet in his leg and he was rushed to Bijbehara hospital, where doctors said his condition was stable.
Government forces on Saturday evening launched a cordon and search operation in Niloora village after receiving information about presence of militants in the area, sources said.
