Baramulla: Panchayat elections conducted in three panchayat blocks of Baramulla district on Saturday recorded a polling percentage of 12. 09. Official reports said that there were 5,837 registered voters in the three blocks but only 710, including 396 males and 314 females, cast their vote.
In Sopore panchayat block, of the 3,027 registered voters, only 49 voters – 28 males and 21 females – cast their vote, with the polling percentage being 1.62%.
In block Chandil, among the 920 registered voters 232 voters including 140 males and 92 females cast their votes, the polling percentage being 25.22%.
In the third block, Khaipora, there were 1,926 registered voters of which 710 – 228 males and 201 females – cast their vote, with the percentage at 22.27%.
The overall percentage came to 12.09% for the trio of blocks that went to polls in the sixth phase of the nine-phase Panchayat elections.
The counting of voters was still on late in the evening and results had not been declared till the filing of this report.
